Types of Therapy
Individual Therapy
One-on-one therapy for children, adolescents and young adults ages 0-25 with a wide range of mental health disorders. The goal is to reduce symptoms and barriers that are causing difficulties in the home, school and/or community. The focus is on improving daily living skills and healthy social development to live a happy, healthy, productive life.
Family Therapy/Parenting Skills
Family therapy works to improve relationships and resolve conflicts between family members as a whole as well as among individuals and groupings. Parenting skills training is often part of family therapy when therapy involves children and teenagers.
Case Management
The role of a mental health case manager is to ensure that clients receive the necessary services and support they need. This often involves coordinating care across multiple providers, such as psychiatrists, therapists, and social workers. Case managers may also provide coaching on practical skills to help with independent living, provide emotional support during a crisis, may even be involved in advocating for the client at meetings with medical providers or other service agencies including schools.
Crisis Assessment & Stabilization
Crisis services are designed to provide de-escalation and relief to individuals experiencing a behavioral health or substance use-related crisis. The primary goals of crisis services are to reduce the immediate risk of danger and subsequent harm, and to avoid unnecessary emergency department care, psychiatric inpatient hospitalizations and law enforcement involvement.
Psychiatry
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can diagnose and treat mental health disorders as well as prescribe medication to treat those disorders. A psychiatric evaluation typically involves a thorough review of a client’s medical history and current symptoms as well as collaboration with the client’s therapist.
Telehealth
We offer appointment using videoconferencing or telephone to accommodate those client’s who are unable to travel to our office or receive their sessions at school.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is therapy?
Psychotherapy (sometimes called talk therapy) refers to a variety of treatments that help a person identify and change troubling emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.
How do i know if my child needs therapy?
You may notice changes in appetite, sleeping more or less, irritability, loss of interest in things they previously enjoyed, withdrawing from friends and family or changes in who they are hanging out with, changes in academic performance, signs of drug and/or alcohol use, signs of self-harm such as cuts, bruises, or burns. If you are concerned about changes in your child’s behavior, a trained therapist can help to determine if there is a problem that warrants mental health treatment.
Where do therapy sessions Take Place?
Most of our therapy sessions take place in the school setting. However, we also offer therapy in our offices and over the computer (telehealth).
Will the Therapist Tell Me what My Child Tells Them In Therapy?
This is a difficult and complicated topic that should be addressed early on in therapy. In order for the therapist to build a relationship with your child, the child needs to be able to trust them with personal and private information. How, when and whether that information is shared with parents should be clearly defined. However, if a child admits to thoughts of self-harm, harming someone else, or that someone is hurting them, then the therapist must, by law, must report it.
Will I Be Part of My Child's Therapy Sessions?
Your child’s therapist may ask you to participate in therapy sessions, parenting skills training, or other work to support your child’s needs.
How will i pay for therapy?
You will not pay anything. Our clinic is funded by a grant from the Department of Mental Health. We only accept client’s with Medi-Cal insurance or those without insurance.Toggle Content
